About InfraCARE

Project summary

Urban environments across the globe are facing increasingly complex challenges brought on by climate change. Climate impacts are felt disproportionately in socio-economically marginalised communities. InfraCARE rethinks the dynamics between care and infrastructure to trace more inclusive and reparative infrastructural conditions for urban climate justice.

The network engages diverse local stakeholders in knowledge co-production for climate action, enabling mutual learning and deepening research connections on the social infrastructures of urban climate justice. By positioning local stakeholders as key co-production partners, InfraCARE fosters inclusive decision-making that prioritises the voices and needs of marginalised urban populations across Europe.

The consortium brings together expertise in urban geography, political ecology, climate policy analysis, spatial planning, ecological economics, social anthropology, and participatory and feminist methodologies from University of Groningen, University of the Basque Country, University of Bern, and University of Galway to foster long-term cooperation on just, equitable and transformative local climate action.

InfraCARE will deliver high-quality outputs through two research workshops and offer training and networking opportunities for students and early-career researchers via a summer school on urban infrastructures for equitable and sustainable climate action. We will also develop a travelling photo exhibition depicting urban climate injustices through the eyes of students at partner universities.
